More firefighters
Firefighters doing firefighter stuff. The one in white has a radio and is talking to the guys working other parts of the fire. They are moving the stream of water back and forth. Water is pouring off the roofs of the brick buildings.
Other people are running around in the alley with cameras. One guy has a tripod and a really great camera with a lens as long as my arm. Some people don't have cameras; there are construction workers and people talking on cellphones who seem to be associated with the brick buildings.
I'm still at a fair distancethis is the magic of telephotoand am staying out of their way. I wasn't aware of it at the time, but the reason why I was able to get all these pictures is the steady wind out of the south. All the smoke, flame, and burning chunks of building were being blown north across Broad and into the Carver neighborhood, where some houses burned down. I could feel the heat and some of the water, but no ash or smoke was coming my way.
